Houston Pet Photography by Houston Photographer Alisa Murray
It’s just as important to capture the relationships with our fur babies as it is with the rest of our “family!” I have always welcomed cats, dogs, fish… birds and even turtles! The responsibility I have as your portrait artist; is not only to make sure we get the ages and stages captured from newborn throughout the teen years but to also capture the people and pets that make us who we are all along the way.
I remember my Charlie, an Irish setter who my Daddy’s partner at the OBGYN office gifted to me; as a two year old when Mommy and Daddy came to Monroe, North Carolina to set up his practice as a OBGYN. I loved “Charlie Red” and he would patiently allow me to dress him up in tutus and we would do serious housekeeping in my tree house with my dolls and little sister. The day he died I remember like it was yesterday, all these years later… I knew he did not feel well and I had taken to crawling into his dog house with him and sleeping with him because he was too old and sick to want to come out and play. Finally my father insisted that I come inside and have a hotdog for lunch and while I was eating, as soon as I left him, he passed away. I remember going right back to the dog house and trying to wake him and realizing he was gone. I began to cry and then wail. In all the wailing my daddy came outside and pulled me from his dog house and we took Charlie to be buried with his mother and father on T Lane’s property.
Recently I went home and walked the old property with T Lane and my son James Edward. I told him about Charlie Red and how special that sweet dog was to me as a child. Having pets is a very important part of learning about life and death and seasons in your life. I always encourage my parents to get a pet for my littles because so much important life lessons are learned through having that relationship. We learn about true love and loyalty, we have our hearts broken and grieve and then learn to love again. It is through our fur babies that we each reach a fulfilled life.
